Pursuing interests (defined as an intentional practice, driving your own bus) has obvious happiness benefits.

A fulfilled individual who is pursuing their interests is able at emotional articulation, navigating the world inside their heard, and have the lens of inside–outside perspective (useful to spot algorithmic nudging say).

More so, the level of self–inventiveness required in our exponential world can easily become overwhelming. Automation will have (us all) needing to articulate the future of our job. In a future of abundance we need to know what to ask the machine.

That gradient between where we are now, and the future, is paved with meta questions we need to be ready to answer. The opportunity cost of not pursuing our interests, not curving out time to spend in our own head, is too great.
